Cedar Channel Siding vs Bevel Siding – Which One’s Best for Your Home?

While it might seem like siding solely defines the way a house looks, but the truth is actually far from that. Siding is, indeed, the defining physical attribute of a home. However, on top of that, they protect the integrity of the structures from humidity, wind, and sunlight, among other harsh elements. So, how will you choose to do so? Will you go for bevel siding? Or is the cedar channel siding the best option?

Cedar Channel Siding or Bevel Siding?

There are many different ways in which to assemble siding on the surface of a house, and each one comes with its own visual trademarks. Two of the most popular approaches to siding are cedar channel siding and bevel siding. What’s the difference? Well, let’s take a look.

What is Bevel Siding?

Commonly referred to as overlapped siding, bevel siding has a very rustic look that’s commonly seen in plenty of houses across the United States. The name comes from the beveled edges, which is a key defining trait of siding boards in general. These refer to the one edge on a board that is not perpendicular to the faces of the piece. This edge is used to soften a side of the piece for safety purposes, wear resistance, or even just for the look of it. When it comes to wood siding, it is often very important to make sure to look for beveled edges in order to ease the actual assembling of the siding on the structure itself. Beveled edges make it so that the siding has some dimension to it while also protecting the house itself, as all siding should.

What is Channel Siding?

Instead of the slanted look of bevel siding, channel siding is mostly flat with the surface of each board being perpendicular to the ground. That is except, of course, for the titular channels. In channel siding, the profile of each board will partially overlap with that of the board next to it. This overlap creates the titular channel, giving the siding a shadow line effect. But don’t worry, this isn’t purely a visual attribute. This channel also provides great weather protection and creates a dimensional movement. While bevel siding can give a house a very rustic look, cedar channel siding also has a very traditional feel to it with a slightly different approach. It’s less of a classic suburban look, instead, going for a more cabin-like surface.
